Pignolo di Ronchi di Cialla is a fine and intense expression of one of the rarest and most interesting native vines of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The Ronchi di Cialla winery, a pioneer in the rediscovery and valorization of forgotten native vines, pays particular attention to Pignolo, a vine that produces wines of great structure and complexity, with exceptional aging potential.

Pignolo is known for its ability to profoundly express the unique terroir of Cialla, a small area in the heart of the Colli Orientali del Friuli appellation. The Pignolo vineyards are located on lands characterized by an ideal climate and rich soils which contribute to giving the wine a marked minerality and concentration.

Ronchi di Cialla conducts its viticulture with a constant commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly methods, ensuring that each bottle reflects the high quality and authenticity of the fruit. The vinification of Pignolo is carried out with care and precision, using long macerations and prolonged refinements in wood, to enhance the peculiarities of the vine and obtain a wine of considerable depth.

At sight, Pignolo presents an intense and deep ruby red color, almost impenetrable, which preludes the richness of its bouquet. On the nose, the wine releases complex and layered aromas, with notes of ripe red and black fruits, such as blackberry and plum, enriched with nuances of spices, tobacco and chocolate, as well as an elegant balsamic touch that adds freshness and liveliness.

In the mouth, Pignolo reveals a powerful but balanced structure, supported by ripe and velvety tannins which give the wine a rich and enveloping texture. The acidity is well integrated, helping to maintain a long aromatic persistence and enhancing the intense flavors of ripe fruit and the spicy and toasted notes deriving from the aging in wood.

Pignolo by Ronchi di Cialla is a wine that stands out for its elegance, intensity and longevity, ideal for accompanying rich and structured dishes, such as roasted red meats, game and mature cheeses. With its distinctive character and its ability to evolve wonderfully over time, Pignolo represents a testimony to the oenological excellence of Friuli-Venezia Giulia and of Ronchi di Cialla's commitment to valorising its native vines.

Winery history
The Rapuzzi family founded the estate in 1970 in the small Cialla valley, restoring local vineyards and helping to save Schioppettino when the variety was nearly lost. In the 1970s and 1980s the winery perfected the recovery of vine cuttings, produced the first vintages of Schioppettino and received recognition that brought Cialla’s wines to international auctions. The denomination and boundaries of the Cialla cru were officially established by ministerial acts and regulations in subsequent years, consolidating the estate’s reputation as a custodian of Friulian indigenous varieties.
Production philosophy
The estate works exclusively with native grape varieties, favoring controlled yields, selective harvesting and minimal agronomic interventions. In the cellar, winemaking is kept as natural as possible and wines undergo extended ageing — including in wood — to achieve long-lived wines with a strong expression of terroir. Biodiversity protection and low-impact practices are integral to the production method.
Terroir and vineyards
The winery is located in the Cialla valley, a small hilly amphitheatre overlooking the Colli Orientali del Friuli, characterized by a tempered microclimate between the Adriatic Sea and the Julian Alps and by marly, well-stratified soils that favor the cultivation of local indigenous varieties. The area is officially recognized as the cru CIALLA for certain traditional varieties.
