The Pinot Nero DOC from St. Michael Eppan is an elegant and finely modulated expression of this versatile red grape variety. Native to the various wine regions of Alto Adige, this wine benefits from the unique setting that this area provides: a temperate climate and the breezy alpine terroir, which significantly contribute to its distinctive freshness and aromatic vivacity.

The winemaking process follows traditional methods with careful selection of the grapes. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel containers, preserving the varietal characteristics and the purity of the fruit. Subsequently, part of the wine matures in oak barrels, which subtly contribute tones of sweet spices and vanilla, without overpowering the fruity profile.

Upon tasting, the Pinot Nero from St. Michael Eppan presents a delicate ruby red color. To the nose, seductive notes of ripe cherries and strawberries emerge, accompanied by floral hints of violet and a touch of aromatic herbs. On the palate, the wine shows a medium-light structure, with soft tannins and an acidic balance that promises good aging potential.

With a lingering finish that revisits tones of red fruit and sweet spices, this Pinot Nero is suitable for a wide variety of culinary pairings: from delicate meat dishes like veal or duck, to medium-aged cheeses and mushroom-based preparations.

With its natural elegance and refined complexity, the Pinot Nero DOC from St. Michael Eppan tells the story of a rich land and a wine tradition capable of delivering unique emotions through its wines.

Winery history
Founded as a cooperative winery in 1907, St. Michael‑Eppan has grown to unite hundreds of wine‑growing families and to attain national and international recognition. Since the late 1970s the role of Hans Terzer has helped shift the focus from mass production to quality wines; in recent years the winery has developed flagship ranges such as Appius and The Wine Collection.
Production philosophy
A cooperative effort by the members combined with a strong focus on terroir and varietal typicity: focused vinification, grape selection for the top ranges, and limited production for premium bottlings. The winery showcases local crus and varietal expression.
Terroir and vineyards
