Winery history
Dominio de Atauta was born as a project focused on the recovery and enhancement of the historic vineyards of the Valle di Atauta. Official sources describe a territory with a long winemaking tradition and pre-phylloxera, century-old vines grown as bush vines; various publications also report variable figures on the size of the vineyards.
Production philosophy
The winery prioritizes sustainable viticulture and winemaking practices aimed at expressing the character of the terroir: manual vineyard work, the use of natural compost and differentiated vinification to preserve the freshness and minerality of the calcareous soils.
Terroir and vineyards
Valle de Atauta, in the eastern part of the D.O. Ribera del Duero, is characterized by altitudes of approximately 950–1,000 meters, calcareous soils and a mosaic of many small parcels that contribute to substantial soil and microclimatic diversity.
