Estate winery located in Canneto di Monteverdi Marittimo (PI), set in expansive natural surroundings between Val di Cornia and Val di Cecina; known for the Vermentino "Pian di Seta" and the red "Poggio Miniera" (Val di Cornia).
Region: Toscana
Country: Italia
Grapes: Vermentino, Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot
The estate spans over 1,030 hectares between Val di Cornia and Val di Cecina. Main wines: Vermentino "Pian di Seta" and "Poggio Miniera". Located in the area of the former mining station, the property today houses agritourism accommodation, a restaurant and a wine shop. It is part of the Tenute del Cerro group, a wine company affiliated with the Unipol Group. Estate undergoing conversion to organic farming.
Winery history
The estate is located on the site of former lignite and magnesite mines: the main building was once the terminal station of the Casino di Terra–Monterufoli railway. During the 20th century the area passed through several historic owners before becoming part of Tenute del Cerro. In recent decades its agricultural focus has been strengthened through new vineyard plantings and by enhancing the agritourism and dining facilities at the Villetta di Monterufoli.
Production philosophy
The estate aims to express the character of the terroir by combining biodiversity conservation with sustainable agricultural practices: it has started producing Vermentino and embarked on a path toward organic farming, situating its winemaking activities within a large natural park.
Terroir and vineyards
The estate is located in the hilly band between Val di Cornia and Val di Cecina, in the province of Pisa, at elevations between approximately 150 and 500 meters above sea level. The landscape includes woodlands, thermal springs and mineral deposits that characterize the area's soils.
