Selbach-Oster – Winery in Mosel (Mittelmosel)

Discover the story and wines of Selbach-Oster.

A winery in the Mittelmosel focused on Riesling from steep vineyards on slate soils, with wines ranging from dry to great sweet selections.
Region: Mosel (Mittelmosel)
Country: Germania
Grapes: Riesling, Pinot Blanc (Weißburgunder), Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder), Gewürztraminer
Strong focus on Riesling. Steep vineyards on Devonian slate, many with old vines and some parcels on their own roots. Manual vineyard work and selective harvesting carried out in multiple passes; minimal intervention in the cellar and spontaneous fermentations. Wines range from dry, fresh Rieslings to noble sweet selections, with long aging potential. International recognition and distribution through reviews and specialized importers and critics.
Winery history
The family has been involved in Moselle viticulture for centuries. The present-day estate is the result of family traditions and a reorganization in the 20th century; ownership and management have remained in family hands, with Johannes Selbach at the head of the modern estate. Over time Selbach‑Oster has gained an international reputation for its expressions of Riesling from single-cru sites in the Mittelmosel.
Production philosophy
The estate favors simplicity and care for the fruit: minimal intervention in the cellar, fermentations carried out almost exclusively with indigenous yeasts, extended maturation on the lees, and a strong focus on vineyard quality.
Terroir and vineyards
Main premises in Zeltingen‑Rachtig in the Middle Mosel; vineyards located in historic crus of the Middle Mosel, on Devonian slate soils and steep slopes. Among the sites mentioned in public descriptions are parcels in Zeltingen, Wehlen, Graach and Bernkastel.
Awards and recognitions
The winery is widely recognized in the international specialist press and has received numerous awards and favorable reviews over the years.
