The Artois brewery in Leuven has distant origins; it was founded by Den Horen in 1366, the master brewer Sebastian Artois purchased it in 1717 and consequently changed the name to Artois.
In 1987 the brewery became part of the Belgian giant Interbrew owned by Piedboeuf, the largest beer producer in Belgium. The name Stella Artois was born at Christmas 1926 to celebrate the rebirth of the brewery, which was seriously damaged during the First World War.
Stella Artois has a rich and persistent foam, which quickly rises to the top of the glass, the typical aromas of Premium Lagers reach the nose: freshly cut grass and freshly baked breadcrumbs.
The taste is fresh, refined and pleasantly hopped by the Stella Artois but penalized by the exuberant effervescence. But after a while the excess liveliness disappears, leaving us to savor the perfect balance of this excellent Premium Lager.
