Valtellina Superiore DOCG - Sassella - Nino Negri is an emblematic expression of Nebbiolo, known locally as Chiavennasca, grown on the historic terraces of Sassella, one of the most renowned sub-areas of the Valtellina Superiore denomination. Nino Negri, a prestigious winery with a long winemaking tradition in this Alpine region, has been able to masterfully interpret the unique terroir of Sassella, producing a wine that embodies the strength and elegance of Nebbiolo in a mountain context.

This wine has an intense garnet red color, typical of matured Nebbiolo. On the nose, Nino Negri's Sassella reveals a rich and complex aromatic profile, where notes of ripe red fruit, such as cherry and plum, intertwine with floral accents, traces of sweet spices and a subtle mineral vein, the fruit of interaction between the vine and the rocky soil of the Sassella terraces.

On the palate, the wine demonstrates a robust but elegant structure, with fine tannins and a well-integrated acidity that gives freshness and liveliness. The aromatic complexity is reflected in a range of flavors that reflect the olfactory sensations, evolving towards a long and persistent finish, which leaves a pleasant sensation of balance and harmony.

Nino Negri's Valtellina Superiore DOCG Sassella is particularly suitable for accompanying intense and structured dishes, such as grilled or stewed red meats, game dishes and mature cheeses. Its richness and complexity also make it an excellent meditation wine, capable of evolving and revealing new layers of aromas and flavors as time passes.

Winery history
Founded by Nino Negri and with deep roots in Chiuro, the winery has more than a century of history. The company website records historical milestones, from the 15th‑century palazzo that houses the winery to the company's official registration and subsequent phases of growth; in recent years Nino Negri joined Gruppo Italiano Vini and has benefited from the work of prominent oenologists who contributed to the winery's qualitative development.
Production philosophy
The winery aims to highlight the distinctive character of Chiavennasca through mountain viticulture, careful selection of cru and winemaking techniques that reflect the valley’s microclimatic and soil variations. It combines local tradition with modern methods to produce wines that express the territory.
Terroir and vineyards
The vineyards are in Valtellina, cultivated on steep terraces with dry-stone walls in historic subzones such as Sassella, Grumello, Inferno and Valgella. The soil is often shallow, rich in schist and quartz fragments; exposure and a wide diurnal temperature range give the wines structure, acidity and minerality.
Awards and recognitions
