This wine is fermented in concrete tanks and then aged in new barriques for just over a year. Later, it continues its maturation process in the bottle for a long period.

It is a velvety, determined and elegant red wine, known for its structure which makes it ideal for prolonged aging.

Its shade is a dark ruby red with light garnet reflections, and offers a rich and elegant aromatic bouquet. In the perfume, notes of red fruits emerge such as currants, blueberries, wild blackberries and red plums. Subtle spicy accents, vanilla, tobacco, hints of undergrowth and balsamic herbs can also be perceived.

In the mouth, the wine has a solid structure and an appreciable aromatic persistence. The tannins are delicate and well integrated, surrounded by ripe fruit which translates into a harmonious sip and a long and well-balanced finish.

Winery history
The property occupies a medieval village on the left bank of the Adige. Monastic origins, a residential core and the family villa characterize the estate. The Guerrieri Gonzaga family has been present in San Leonardo for centuries, and Villa Gresti is the family's historic residence; part of the complex houses a museum preserving documents and objects related to the estate's agricultural life.
Production philosophy
Focused on expressing the terroir, with careful vineyard management and traditional winemaking practices: Bordeaux-style blends, spontaneous fermentations in small concrete vats, and extended ageing in wood and in bottle. In recent years the estate has also moved toward more sustainable practices, and the conversion of the vineyards to organic farming has been reported by commercial and industry sources.
Terroir and vineyards
The estate is located in Vallagarina, in the far south of Trentino, amid a strip of vineyards sheltered by the mountains and bathed by the Adige River; the landscape is marked by alluvial hills and the nearby Dolomites, elements that influence the freshness and structure of the wines.
