This Ardmore 2008, 14-year-old, bottled by Gordon & MacPhail, offers a direct and honest character. On the nose there is peat present but not overpowering, interwoven with barley malt and a hint of heather honey; candied citrus notes and a light white pepper emerge, keeping everything lively. The overall impression is of a balanced spirit, with a clear aromatic profile and a freshness that supports the structure without weighing it down. It’s a whisky that shows maturity without excess.

On the palate it has a good backbone, rounded in the mid-palate and drying towards the finish: the smokiness returns compact but restrained, accompanied by a light savoury note and memories of toasted hazelnut and dark chocolate. It’s well suited to be enjoyed neat or with a drop of water to open its aromas; for pairing, it matches aged cheeses, grilled meats, or a square of dark chocolate for those seeking contrast.
