A Caol Ila 2013 ten-year-old from Douglas Laing's Provenance line offers a profile of crisp character: on the nose there are hints of clean smoke, light iodine and citrus peel that sketch a maritime picture without excess. The peaty component is present but measured, supported by a freshness that keeps it balanced; the salinity cuts through the palate while retaining warmth on contact. It’s a whisky that doesn’t seek brute force, but a clearly defined, recognizable aromatic profile.

The sip is smooth, with medium body, saline echoes and a softness that mellows the smoke; the finish lingers on saline notes and a slight bitterness of dried herbs. It lends itself to being enjoyed neat or with a drop of water to open the aromas, ideal alongside smoked fish dishes, shellfish or flavorful cheeses. The case shelters the bottle with sobriety, making it a thoughtful gift for those who appreciate a spirit that steers clear of excess.
