The Ledaig 12-year-old from Gordon & MacPhail presents a sharp but well-balanced character: peat smoke is present but never overpowering, saline notes that recall sea air, and an undercurrent of malt and honey. On the nose there are citrus hints and a light vanilla derived from the influence of the wood, which tie together the salinity and sweetness. The twelve years of aging give it roundness, smoothing the rougher edges of the smoke and adding an overall sense of balance.

On the palate it is warm and smooth; the peat integrates with a thread of white pepper, dry caramel and a herbaceous hint that lends freshness; the structure is solid but not heavy. The finish is persistent, marked by saline echoes and a warm note of sweet spices. Its drinkability is surprising: it stands up well to a contemplative tasting but also lends itself to an after-dinner glass; pairs with aged cheeses, smoked dishes or a square of dark chocolate.
