Tomatin 12 years old in this Gordon & MacPhail expression shows a fragrant and approachable profile. On the nose there’s a combination of white-fleshed fruit — apple and pear — accompanied by light honey, vanilla and subtle cereal notes. A citrus hint adds freshness, while a gentle spiciness makes the picture more interesting without weighing it down. The character is gentle but defined, aimed at those who enjoy easy-drinking single malts.

On the palate the sip is round and clean, medium-bodied, with a good harmony between softness and structure; the finish is moderate and leaves impressions of honey, vanilla and a touch of earthiness. It’s a versatile whisky: enjoy it neat, with a few drops of water to open up the aromas, or paired with hard cheeses and not-too-complex desserts based on caramel and dried fruit. Also a good choice for starting a small at-home tasting.
