Distillation and production

Production method

Chivas Regal is a blended Scotch: the final product is created by marrying single malt whiskies (with a significant component from Strathisla) and grain whiskies. Malts are produced using traditional methods (mashing, fermentation in wooden washbacks, double distillation in copper pot stills) and then matured in casks before blending and, in some cases, selective finishing in other barrel types.

Distillation

Traditional distillation for single malts (wash still and spirit still in copper) at facilities such as Strathisla; grain whisky components are sourced from specialised distilleries. Subsequent maturation and blending (marrying) create the house style.

Ageing

Maturation in oak casks with selection of the best barrels for each expression; use of selective cask finishes for special variants.

Producer history Chivas Regal

The brand originates from the tradition of brothers John and James Chivas, Aberdeen merchants who, from their city emporium, began blending whiskies to achieve smoother, more consistent flavours. The name 'Chivas Regal' first appeared on luxury blends in the early 20th century (1909) and the core of the modern blend is formed by Strathisla single malt. The brand is part of the Chivas Brothers portfolio and has been owned by the Pernod Ricard group since 2001.

Production philosophy

To celebrate the art of blending: balance, smoothness and consistency are central to the offering. The positioning combines tradition and accessible luxury, with collaborations and special releases that explore different finishes and cask selections.

Territory

Speyside / Scottish Highlands; the key malt comes from the Strathisla distillery (Keith, Moray), considered the 'home' of the brand.
