Distillation and production

Distillation and production

Production method

Blue Weber agave is cooked in steam autoclaves (method adopted by the founder), pressed with volcanic spring water, fermented in open vats and distilled in copper stills. The production site is the historic 'La Guarreña' distillery (NOM 1108) in the city of Tequila.

Distillation

Distillation in copper stills; documented practices of double distillation for commercial expressions.

Ageing

Exposure and maturation in wooden casks for aged expressions; different types of wood and barrel sizes are used depending on the expression (some sources report rests in American oak for specific labels). For the Reposado, short aging intervals are reported (e.g. some product sheets indicate 2–12 months).

Producer history El Tequileño

The brand's official history begins on January 1, 1959, when Don Jorge Salles Cuervo founded El Tequileño in the city of Tequila, Jalisco. Production remained family-linked in subsequent years; technical management and the role of Master Distiller were passed down to later generations. In 2017 the brand was acquired by Paradise Spirits and from 2018 expansion projects began, including the construction of Casa Salles Hotel Boutique, inaugurated in 2019.

Production philosophy

The producer emphasizes artisanal quality and connection to the territory: selection of agave from the Altos de Jalisco, use of volcanic spring water from the Volcán de Tequila area, attention to sustainability and recycling of production waste.

Territory

City of Tequila, Jalisco (Los Altos de Jalisco region). Use of spring water sourced from the Volcán de Tequila area.
