Distillation and production

Distillation and production

Production method

Production of single malt Scotch in the traditional style: use of unpeated malted barley (dried with warm air), fermentation and distillation on the distillery's stills; the new make spirit is then transferred for maturation to storage warehouses.

Ageing

Maturation in casks (warehouses located in the Lowlands portion of the site), with blending and finishing in different wood types depending on the expression.

Producer history Glengoyne

Glengoyne originated as a whisky production site in the Dumgoyne area; the premises have been operational since the 19th century and documented production dates back to 1833. Over its history the site has changed ownership several times; since 2003 it has been part of the Ian Macleod group. The distillery has preserved historical elements of the site and a long production tradition while evolving with new ranges and commercial relaunches in recent decades.

Production philosophy

The distillery's stated philosophy favors a 'slow' approach without shortcuts: use of unpeated barley dried with warm air, attention to cask quality and maturation that highlights the natural character of the malt without resorting to peat smoke.

Territory

Dumgoyne, Scotland. The distillery stands on the border between the Highlands and Lowlands: the stills are located in the part classified as Highlands while the maturation warehouses are positioned in the Lowlands portion.

Awards and recognitions

Among reported recognitions: double Gold and awards at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition for some expressions (e.g., 12/17 years in past editions), and prizes for wood finishes (e.g., mentions at the Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival).
