Production method

Produced as a blended Scotch: assembly and marrying of numerous malt and grain whiskies from different distilleries, with selection of 'heart malts' to provide structure and body.

Distillation

Blend of malt and grain whiskies (assembly of malt and grain whisky).

Ageing

Maturation in wooden casks; J&B Rare is declared as matured in casks for a minimum period (e.g. minimum 3 years for the Scotch designation), while designated expressions (12Y, 15Y) are aged for the respective years stated on the labels.

Producer history J&B

The origins date back to the wine and spirits merchant founded by Giacomo Justerini in London (1749). After various changes of ownership the company adopted the name Justerini & Brooks in the 19th century. The J&B Rare blend was devised in the early 1930s and marketed from 1932, originally aimed at the North American market. Today the brand is part of Diageo’s portfolio, while Justerini & Brooks maintains a long tradition as a wine and spirits merchant.

Production philosophy

A brand with an informal, versatile personality: an 'un‑Scotch' that favors lightness and adaptability for mixing, conceived to be mixed and shared rather than only sipped slowly.

Territory

Scotland (produced as Scotch whisky) with roots and the historic merchant headquarters in London, United Kingdom.
