Founded by Girolamo Luxardo in 1821 in Zara (then part of the Habsburg Empire, today Zadar in Croatia), the company became famous for its Maraschino and the processing of marasca cherries. After the devastation of World War II production was re-established in Torreglia (Padua) in 1947; since then the company has remained under Luxardo family control and has gradually expanded its range and markets.
