Matusalem

The Matusalem brand was created in Santiago de Cuba in 1872 by brothers Benjamin and Eduardo Camp (with the participation of Evaristo Álvarez). The founders brought to Cuba the knowledge of the Solera system applied to spirit making. After major successes in the first half of the 20th century, the family was forced into exile by Cuban political events; the brand was relaunched starting in 2002. In the 2010s Matusalem rebuilt production capacity on the Caribbean island: from 2015–2016 production, aging and bottling were established in a new facility in the Monte Plata province/municipality, Dominican Republic.

To preserve the tradition of a Cuban‑inspired Caribbean rum profile by applying the Solera method to achieve smoothness and complexity, maintaining family management of the brand and targeting the premium/super‑premium segment.
