Descrizione

The Lagrein Alto Adige DOC from Kettmeir shows a deep, inky appearance typical of the grape, and an immediate aromatic profile that recalls ripe forest fruits, plum and a pleasant violet floral note. On the nose there are also subtle earthy hints and a spicy touch that add complexity without weighing it down; on the palate the sip is full but balanced, supported by well-defined tannins and a freshness that keeps it flowing and lively to a pleasant persistence. Good sapidity and fruity echoes on the finish complete the picture without forcing the character.

It is a wine of character, suitable for flavorful dishes: roasts, grilled red meats, robust cured meats and aged cheeses find a good companion in this Lagrein. A serving temperature of around 16-18 °C highlights its structure and aromas; it is also interesting with local polenta-based dishes or mushroom preparations, where the wine’s earthy component creates lovely harmonies. Perfect for the everyday table but capable of standing up to more structured courses.

Winery history

Founded in the early 20th century, Kettmeir is a historic South Tyrolean winery rooted in Caldaro. Over the years the winery has evolved its production and commercial structure; company historical sources and group materials record the founding year as 1919 and indicate corporate changes that led to the current ownership structure cited in official documents.

Production philosophy

The winery aims to express the Alto Adige region through selections of indigenous and international grape varieties, maintaining stable collaborations with local producers. The approach combines respect for local tradition with techniques focused on innovation, with particular attention to the development of Traditional Method sparkling wines.

Terroir and vineyards

Kettmeir primarily operates in the Alto Adige / Oltradige area around Lake Caldaro and on the surrounding hills.
