Westmalle Dubbel is an excellent Belgian beer produced in the abbey of Notre Dame de la Trappe du Sacré Coeur, and is a descendant of the beer destined for the monks of Westmalle since 1856. In 1926 the recipe was changed and they began to produce it with double the ingredients, so it was called double. Like all Westmalle beers, it boasts the ATP mark as an Authentic Trappist Product.
A mahogany-colored beer with reddish reflections, in the glass it develops a coffee-colored foam, abundant and persistent, a color due to the double dose of malt used.
Westmalle Dubbel is re-fermented in the bottle and therefore acquires a delicious rich and complex taste, as well as releasing sweet aromas of caramel, ripe banana and spices. In the mouth the taste is pleasant and decisive, directed on the malt, with hints of chocolate and dried fruit, with a persistent and dry aftertaste, with medium to medium-high alcohol content.
Dubbel is a dark Belgian Trappist ale, characterized by strong malty scents and a medium to medium-high alcoholic body. It goes perfectly with appetizers, very structured first and second courses, roasted or grilled white and red meats, including spicy ones, semi-hard and aged cheeses and shrimps.
