On the palate, the Riesling Hengst Grand Cru offers a balanced structure with lively acidity, which harmoniously integrates with a medium body and a persistent, refreshing finish. Its production using traditional methods and the meticulous attention to the winemaking process by Domaine Barmes Beucher make it a true gem for white wine enthusiasts, capable of offering a rich and complex tasting experience. Winery history
The estate was established by the union of the Barmès and Buecher families; its creation is linked to the founders’ marriage, and the family structure has continued through subsequent generations. Since the late 1990s the estate undertook conversion to biodynamic viticulture, a process completed with official certification in the early 2000s. Today the family’s children are actively involved in managing the vineyard and cellar.
Production philosophy
They practice biodynamic viticulture with attention to natural rhythms and the soil: manual work, biodynamic preparations, hedgerows and biodiversity in the vineyard. In the cellar a measured approach is preferred to allow the character of the terroir and the vintage to emerge clearly in the bottles. They are a member of Biodyvin and collaborate with initiatives that promote the expression of terroirs.
Terroir and vineyards
The domaine is located in Wettolsheim, a few kilometres west/southwest of Colmar and near Eguisheim, on the foothills of the Vosges. The vineyard comprises several lieux-dits and parcels on varied soils and produces wines linked to specific terroirs, including Grand Crus such as Hengst, Steingrubler and Pfersigberg; parcels include Rosenberg, Leimental and Clos Sand.
