Darmagi is a single vineyard, the first post-prephylloxera Cabernet planted in Piedmont, whose name derives from the Piedmontese dialect and means "what a shame"; this word was pronounced by Giovanni Gaja when he realized that he had inadvertently planted Cabernet Sauvignon instead of Nebbiolo. The grapes are fermented and macerated for about 3 weeks and then aged in wood for 24 months.

On the nose it shows a varied and well-defined bouquet with floral hints of violet and spicy notes of paprika, cassis fruit and licorice. In the glass it pours with an intense and dark ruby red color; a sip of notable structure, refined and complex at the same time, and characterized by a fine tannic texture.

Excellent wine to be savored in combination with first courses with tasty sauces, mature cheeses, game, roasts, grilled and stewed meat. A drink for true connoisseurs and enthusiasts of oenological excellence.

Winery history
The Gaja family has been present in the Langhe since the second half of the 19th century; the estate, established in the community of Barbaresco, became internationally renowned thanks to its modernization choices and the bottling of wines from individual vineyards.
