The Cossart Gordon Bual 1962 represents a masterpiece in the tradition of Madeira wines, produced by the historic collaboration between Gordon and Blandy's, two of the most prestigious names on the island of Madeira. This wine is an extraordinary exemplification of the excellence and complexity that the Bual grape can express, especially when subjected to long maturation periods.

Madeira is famous for its unique method of aging, known as "estufagem", which subjects the wine to gentle heating for extended periods, mimicking the conditions the wines experienced during long maritime voyages in centuries past. This process gives Madeira wine its characteristic robust structure and extraordinary longevity, allowing specimens such as the Cossart Gordon Bual 1962 to maintain impressive freshness and aromatic complexity even after decades.

Visually, the wine presents itself with a deep amber color, with golden reflections sparkling in the glass. On the nose, it offers an intense and enveloping bouquet, with a rich range of aromas ranging from dried fruit, such as figs and dates, to notes of honey, caramel and sweet spices, enriched by a subtle vein of acidity that gives balance and liveliness.

On the palate, the Cossart Gordon Bual 1962 is sublime, with a sweetness balanced perfectly by the acidity characteristic of Madeira wines, resulting in a complex and layered palate. The texture is velvety, with a wide range of flavors that reflect the nose and develop into a long and persistent finish, leaving a lasting impression of elegance and refinement.

This wine is an extraordinary expression of Madeira's winemaking heritage and a testament to the winemaking mastery of Gordon and Blandy's. It is ideal to be enjoyed as a meditation wine or paired with not too sweet desserts, such as blue cheeses or dried fruit-based desserts.

The Cossart Gordon Bual 1962 is not just a wine, but a true historical experience, a journey through time that offers the rare opportunity to savor the depth and beauty of Madeira, preserved in the bottle for almost six decades.

Winery history
Blandy’s is one of the historic names in Madeira production: the Blandy family has led the company for generations, and the label is recognised for preserving traditional ageing techniques and for operating the Blandy’s Wine Lodge in Funchal. Over the years the company has kept collections of vintage bottles and expanded its portfolio to include frasqueiras, colheitas and blends of different ages.
Production philosophy
It combines respect for traditional Madeira winemaking practices—ageing in the island’s characteristic rooms and casks—with initiatives in innovation and sustainability. The winery emphasises the varietal origins of its wines and the care taken in ageing to express the different styles of Madeira.
Terroir and vineyards
Operations are concentrated on the island of Madeira, with the winery and Blandy’s Wine Lodge in Funchal. Grapes are sourced from several areas of the island, including Seixal, Câmara de Lobos and Jardim da Serra, and the producer also uses cooler sites, such as Caniçal, for certain ageing.
