The Crozes-Hermitage Le Clos Rouge by Delas Freres is an emblematic example of the winemaking mastery of this historic winery in the Rhône Valley. Coming from the specific parcel called "Le Clos", this wine is a tribute to the Syrah variety, a vine that finds the ideal environment in the climatic conditions and terroir of Crozes-Hermitage to express its full potential.

Careful selection of grapes, cutting-edge winemaking techniques and careful refining in oak barriques are the key elements that Delas Freres uses to produce Le Clos Rouge. This approach allows us to obtain a wine that not only reflects the unique identity of its terroir, but also elevates Syrah to new levels of complexity and finesse.

At sight, the Crozes-Hermitage Le Clos Rouge presents itself with an intense ruby red color, which heralds the richness and depth of the wine. On the nose, a complex and seductive bouquet emerges, with aromas of ripe black fruit, in particular blackberries and plums, spicy accents of black pepper and liquorice, and nuances of aromatic herbs and earthiness, which add further levels of complexity.

In the mouth, the wine is structured and robust, with velvety but present tannins, which give Le Clos Rouge a dense and enveloping texture. Syrah fully expresses its range of flavors, with notes of black fruit and spices that blend harmoniously with light touches of vanilla and chocolate, the result of the elegant aging in wood. The freshness and minerality are well balanced, leading to a persistent and aromatically rich finish.

This Crozes-Hermitage is a wine that demonstrates great aging potential, capable of evolving and gaining complexity over time. It is ideal in combination with structured dishes, such as grilled red meats, game dishes and mature cheeses, where it can best express its aromatic richness and flavor complexity.

The Crozes-Hermitage Le Clos Rouge by Delas Freres represents a point of reference for Syrah enthusiasts and for those seeking high-quality, complex expressions deeply linked to the territory of origin in the oenology of the Rhône Valley.

Discover the story and wines of Delas Frères.

A Northern Rhône maison that combines wines from its estate vineyards with wines sourced from partner growers; known for its Syrah-based cuvées and its parcel-based approach to the appellations of the Upper Rhône.
Region: Vallée du Rhône (Rodano settentrionale)
Country: Francia
Founded: 1835
Grapes: Syrah, Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier, Merlot
Estate-owned vineyards concentrated in the Upper Rhône. Parcel-based approach with single-vineyard labels such as Les Bessards, Le Clos and Clos Boucher. Specializing in Syrah for Northern Rhône reds; Viognier for Condrieu; and white blends based on Marsanne and Roussanne. Historic house with roots dating back to 1835 and a quality revival beginning in the 1990s. Winemaking and aging aimed at preserving terroir expression.
Winery history
Founded as a trading business in the 19th century, the house has documented roots dating back to 1835. Throughout the 20th century the family expanded the business and the company adopted the name Delas Frères. More recently it was acquired by the Rouzaud group and underwent a revitalization: in the 1990s technical and agronomic investments were strengthened, the estate progressively expanded its vineyard holdings and, after renovation work and new acquisitions, opened modern winemaking facilities in Tain-l’Hermitage between 2015 and 2019.
Production philosophy
Enhancing the territory and individual parcels, putting people and vineyard management at the center of the work. The estate adopts an "own sourcing" approach and favors winemaking practices that respect the expression of the terroir: parcel-by-parcel vinification, predominant use of destemmed grapes, cold macerations, extended lees contact, and reduced interventions such as fining or filtration on the top cuvées.
Terroir and vineyards
Operates mainly in the Northern Rhône with its own vineyards and single‑parcel wines. The maison also works with parcels and partners to produce typical AOCs such as Condrieu, Côte‑Rôtie and Cornas, and offers Southern Rhône wines through purchases/contracts.
Awards and recognitions
Individual high-end cuvées have received high scores and accolades from critics and specialist publications; the most prestigious bottlings are frequently rated highly in tasting notes.
