Petrolo Galatrona is a wine of phenomenal intensity and complexity that reflects the dedication and passion for producing high-quality wines at the Petrolo winery. This pure Merlot is grown in vineyards located among the hills of Tuscany, where ideal climatic conditions and rich soil impart unique and distinctive characteristics to this illustrious wine.

On the nose, Galatrona unveils a rich and multifaceted bouquet, offering notes of ripe fruits like blackberries and plums, enriched by hints of spices, dark chocolate, and a light touch of vanilla, resulting from aging in French oak barrels. On the palate, the wine is robust yet elegant, with a velvety and well-balanced tannic structure that promises excellent aging potential. The acidity is well-balanced and supports a long and persistent finish.

Galatrona is much more than a simple Merlot; it is a true expression of the terroir where it is produced. Each sip tells the story of land particularly suited to this variety, managed with sustainable techniques that respect the environment and biodiversity.

Ideal for accompanying robust dishes such as roast meats, game, and aged cheeses, Galatrona is also a perfect standout at the end of a meal, where its complex aromas can be fully appreciated. This wine is an excellent example of how Merlot can be at its best in Italy, and particularly in Tuscany, capturing the hearts of wine enthusiasts and connoisseurs worldwide.

Winery history
Petrolo is a historic estate in the Val d’Arno di Sopra that has developed distinct vineyards and recognized crus over time. Among its historic vineyards are Bòggina and Vigna Galatrona, the estate’s first Merlot planting, documented as a vineyard from 1990 and forming the basis of the Galatrona label produced since 1994. Over the years the estate has progressively reoriented its production practices and enhanced individual parcels to produce top-quality wines.
Production philosophy
The estate states a strong connection to the land and a respectful approach to nature: low-yield production, attentiveness to the soil and measured interventions in the vineyard and cellar. Petrolo emphasizes a poetic vision of wine as a transformation of nature and favors agricultural practices oriented toward quality.
Terroir and vineyards
Located in Mercatale Valdarno on the ridges at the southeastern edge of Chianti Classico, the estate extends across natural terraces beneath the Torre di Galatrona. The vineyards are situated between 250 and 500 metres above sea level on soils characterized by layers of galestro, sandstone and alberese, conditions that contribute to the identity of the wines.
