This 1994 Grappa di Barolo from Marolo's Le Grandi Riserve line expresses a mature, composed profile, the result of a long evolution in bottle. On the nose it opens with dried fruit notes — plum and figs — subtle nuances of dark chocolate, tobacco and leather, accompanied by a delicate vanilla that suggests oak influence without being intrusive. It is clear in aromatic purity and shows a balance between alcoholic warmth and olfactory finesse. The overall impression is one of great integrity, with a refinement that tempers its energy.

On the palate the sip is enveloping and soft, with a full but never fatty structure: the warm element is well set within a savory thread that maintains a fresh lift. The persistence is long, with returns of sweet spice and balsamic hints; it closes on an elegant, dry finish. Best enjoyed slightly chilled in a spirits glass, ideal as a contemplative after-dinner drink or paired with dark chocolate and aged cheeses.
