The Monte Colombo Barbera d'Asti DOCG by Marchesi di Gresy is a selection of excellence that celebrates the Barbera vine, a pillar of Piedmontese viticulture, famous for its liveliness, depth of flavors and great versatility. Coming from one of the most respected and historically relevant estates in Piedmont, this wine embodies Marchesi di Gresy's commitment to enhancing the richness and complexity that Barbera can offer when it is expertly cultivated and vinified.

In the heart of the Barbera d'Asti region, the Marchesi di Gresy vineyards enjoy ideal conditions: optimal sun exposure, well-drained soils and a microclimate that favors slow and complete ripening of the grapes. These conditions are fundamental for developing the intense aromatic range and balanced tannic structure that characterize Monte Colombo.

The vinification of Monte Colombo Barbera d'Asti DOCG follows principles attentive to the preservation of varietal qualities and the enhancement of the terroir. The refinement in oak barriques helps to integrate the tannins and enrich the wine with subtle woody notes, without overpowering the freshness and natural fruitiness of the Barbera.

Visually, Monte Colombo presents itself with an intense and inviting ruby red color. On the nose, it expresses a complex and seductive aromatic bouquet, with aromas of ripe red fruits such as cherry and plum, enriched by nuances of spices, chocolate and a light vanilla note, evidence of the elegant passage in wood.

In the mouth, the wine demonstrates an extraordinary balance between lively acidity and a rich tannic structure, typical of Barbera, which goes perfectly with the softness brought by aging. The flavors of red and black fruit blend with spicy and lightly toasted touches, leading to a long and persistent finish, which leaves a pleasant sensation of cleanliness and refreshment.

Ideal in combination with intense and tasty dishes, such as red meats, game, mushroom-based dishes and mature cheeses, Monte Colombo Barbera d'Asti DOCG is also an excellent companion for tasting evenings, capable of revealing its complexity and depth over the time.

In conclusion, Monte Colombo by Marchesi di Gresy represents one of the most refined and complex interpretations of Barbera, a wine that reflects the essence of a historic grape variety through the lens of one of the most prestigious wineries in Piedmont, offering wine lovers a rich and memorable experience.

Winery history
The estate of Tenute Cisa Asinari has been linked to the di Grésy family since the 18th century; the family has owned the Martinenga cru since 1797. Winemaking under the Grésy label in its modern form was begun by Alberto di Grésy around 1973, when the family decided to produce wine exclusively from their own grapes and to promote wines that expressed the identity of the vineyards.
Production philosophy
The estate places great emphasis on vineyard care and on respecting the grape varieties and tradition: winemaking aims to enhance the terroir’s expression without altering it, producing elegant, balanced wines that reflect the character of each vineyard.
Terroir and vineyards
The estates are located across the Langhe and Monferrato and include Martinenga, Monte Aribaldo, La Serra and Monte Colombo. Martinenga is regarded as one of the area’s finest geographical indications, and the grapes from all the estates are generally vinified at the Martinenga winery.
