Torraccia’s Nebbiolo Rosso Ghemme DOCG 2016 expresses the character of Northern Piedmont. This traditional blend is made from 90% Nebbiolo and 10% Vespolina. The grapes come from vineyards in Ghemme, planted on relatively acidic, clay-rich soils of fluvial and alluvial origin. Harvesting is carried out by hand in October. Skin maceration and malolactic fermentation shape a structured, elegant red wine with the capacity to develop further in bottle. It shows a ruby-red colour with evolved reflections and offers a fine, persistent bouquet recalling violet and liquorice. Dry, savoury and harmonious on the palate, it combines firm tannins with pleasant freshness. The traditional version is aged for at least three years, followed by a minimum of six months of bottle refinement. Serve at 16-17 °C and open a few minutes before pouring. Its structure makes it a natural partner for red meats, braised dishes, game and mature cheeses. It can also accompany less elaborate Piedmontese recipes, where its acidity and tannic balance provide a refined, food-friendly finish. Winery history
The company's origins date back to the 1950s, when Pierino Piantavigna planted the first vineyards; it was officially established in 1997 by Alessandro Francoli. Over time ownership and management have evolved to include local family collaborations and an expansion of vineyards and production, while maintaining a focus on the viticultural traditions of the Colline Novaresi.
Production philosophy
Showcasing the territory through careful, low-impact viticulture, prioritizing native grape varieties and practices that bring out the character of the soil and climate. The approach combines respect for local tradition with modern winemaking techniques to produce wines with long aging potential.
Terroir and vineyards
The vineyards are located in Colline Novaresi and the Gattinara area, at the foot of Monte Rosa: morainic-alluvial soils, porphyry and glacial sands with marked temperature variations that contribute to the freshness and longevity of the wines.
Awards and recognitions
Among the recognitions: mentions in Gambero Rosso and Eco-Friendly awards from Touring Club Italiano.
