The Refosco Friuli Grave DOC produced by "I Magredi" represents excellence in Italian viticulture, particularly appreciated by connoisseurs for its distinctive character and deep connection to its region of origin. This red wine is made 100% from Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso grapes, a native variety of Friuli Venezia Giulia, cultivated in the fertile alluvial plains that characterize the Grave area.

Visually, the Refosco presents an intense ruby red color with purple reflections that become more pronounced with aging. On the nose, vigorous aromas of ripe red fruits such as plum and cherry emerge, enriched by spicy notes and a slight vegetal scent reminiscent of currant leaf.

On the palate, this wine reveals a robust yet balanced structure, with well-present tannins that are soft. The acidity is lively, typical of the variety, sustaining a persistent and pleasantly bitter finish, a distinctive feature of Refosco. The flavors on the palate corroborate the olfactory sensations, with a dominance of dark fruit and an aftertaste reminiscent of cocoa and licorice.

The winemaking techniques adopted by "I Magredi" aim to enhance the natural qualities of the Refosco grape. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel containers at controlled temperatures, followed by a maturation period in barriques that helps integrate the tannins and develop the wine's aromatic complexity.

This Refosco Friuli Grave DOC is ideal to serve with traditional Friulian dishes, such as frico with potatoes, but it also pairs splendidly with grilled red meats or aged cheeses. To best appreciate its qualities, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of 18-20°C, after letting it decant for a few hours.

In summary, the Refosco from "I Magredi" is more than a wine; it's a journey through the flavors and traditions of a unique region, capable of offering authentic emotions with every sip. A true gem for lovers of characterful wines.

Winery history
The estate has long been linked to the Tombacco family: Otello Tombacco purchased it in 1968 and, in the late 1980s, Michelangelo Tombacco converted the mainly fruit-growing enterprise into a fully fledged winery. The first part of the cellar was constructed in 1990, and the facilities were expanded and modernized several times; since 2018 the site has been undertaking a project for a new production building. In March 2026 the estate was returned to the full control of Valdo Spumanti, which had already held a stake since 2018.
Production philosophy
The winery adopts an approach that combines tradition and innovation: a focus on quality, respect for the land and attention to environmental sustainability. In the vineyard, integrated pest management protocols are applied, and the company has invested in systems for energy production and in winery wastewater treatment.
Terroir and vineyards
The vineyards are located in the Grave del Friuli, characterized by coarse alluvial soils and wide stretches of pebbles known as 'magredi'. This terroir, protected in many areas as a Special Area of Conservation, fosters pronounced diurnal temperature variation and the aromatic grapes typical of Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
