Vajra’s Langhe DOC Riesling Pétracine® reflects the pioneering spirit of the Vaira family, who introduced Riesling to Piedmont with the first vines planted in 1985. It is made from 100% Rhine Riesling sourced from the Fossati vineyard in the municipality of Barolo and Bricco Bertone in the municipality of Sinio. The plots lie between 420 and 480 metres above sea level and face east to south-east, conditions that encourage gradual ripening and a precise expression of the fruit.

The name Pétracine® comes from an ancient synonym for Riesling and evokes the idea of roots reaching into stone, referring to the rocky soils that give the wine character and identity. In the glass, it is elegant and mineral, with clear citrus notes and a pleasing sense of tension. This Piedmontese white wine is well suited to aperitifs, fish dishes, vegetarian cuisine and light preparations. A territorial interpretation of Riesling, rooted in Vajra’s tradition while remaining open to curiosity and the wider world.

Winery history
The Gaja family has been present in the Langhe since the second half of the 19th century; the estate, established in the community of Barbaresco, became internationally renowned thanks to its modernization choices and the bottling of wines from individual vineyards. In the 1960s and 1970s Angelo Gaja introduced single-vineyard labels and experimented with techniques and grape varieties new to the area. Over time the estate has expanded beyond the heart of the Langhe with investments and holdings in other Italian regions.
Production philosophy
Pursuit of quality through the enhancement of individual crus, direct management of the grapes, technical improvements in the vineyard and winery, and a focus on balancing tradition and experimentation.
Terroir and vineyards
Headquarters and historic vineyards in the Langhe, in the municipality of Barbaresco; the portfolio also includes estates and projects outside the region.
Awards and recognitions
Broad international recognition: Gaja wines consistently attract attention and high scores from critics and specialist guides, and regularly appear in prestigious auctions and collections.
