Castello di Fonterutoli, the Mazzei family's historic estate. A diverse portfolio spanning three main estates: Castello di Fonterutoli, Belguardo, Zisola. Production approach oriented toward environmental sustainability and safeguarding agricultural biodiversity. Cantina di Fonterutoli designed for gravity-flow winemaking and parcel-by-parcel micro-vinification; architecture integrated with the landscape. Production also includes extra virgin olive oil linked to the Fonterutoli area.
Winery history
The Mazzei family has been associated with Castello di Fonterutoli since the 15th century. The Fonterutoli estate represents the historic core of the family's winemaking activity, and the family today operates across several properties in Tuscany and Sicily. Over the years the family has developed its estates while preserving the winemaking tradition and expanding its presence with projects such as Belguardo and Zisola.
Production philosophy
Enhancing the indigenous grape variety and the identity of the territory: the estate favors micro-vinifications by parcel, agricultural management focused on biodiversity, and practices that reduce environmental impact. The Fonterutoli winery combines architecture and functionality to minimize energy consumption and preserve the grapes' characteristics.
Terroir and vineyards
Historic headquarters at Castello di Fonterutoli. Other principal estates: Belguardo in Maremma and Zisola in Noto. The vineyards occupy a range of exposures and altitudes typical of their respective terroirs.
