The Ballechin 2004 18 yo Small Batch Bottling Cask Strength is a peated whisky produced by the Edradour distillery, hidden among the hills of Pitlochry, in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. This single malt vigorously expresses the identity of Ballechin, one of the few peated expressions of the distillery, thanks to an exclusive malted barley variety and a selection of casks for extended maturation.

The maturation method involves a long aging in fine oak casks, which imparts complexity and smoothness without dulling the characteristic notes of peat and smoke, typical of this style. On the nose, it opens with deep aromas of burnt wood, ash, and smokiness, accompanied by hints of licorice, vanilla, and a touch of dried fruit. On the palate, the structure is full, with a good balance between mineral saltiness and a malted sweetness that accompany an intense and never overpowering smoky persistence.

This whisky is perfect to be enjoyed on its own, to appreciate its peated core, but it also pairs well with intense and flavorful dishes such as smoked meats and aged cheeses, enhancing their aromatic nuances in a crescendo of taste.
