Production method

Production based on fermented cane sugar juice; since 2010 the supply chain includes the Alcoholes Finos Dominicanos (AFD) plant for distillation and raw material management. Distillation is carried out mainly with continuous multi-column stills; the final product is blended, aged in wood and, for some releases, finished in special casks.

Distillation

Continuous column distillation (industrial distillation from cane wine), using columns of up to six elements for some cycles; production and distillation are also performed through participation in the Alcoholes Finos Dominicanos (AFD) plant.

Ageing

Aging in oak casks and assembly in blends; for some expressions finishing/maturation in specific casks (e.g. Mizunara, Port, maple) and double aging for premium versions.

Producer history Barceló & Co

The company was started by Julián and Andrés Barceló after their arrival from Mallorca in 1929; Barceló & Co was established in Santo Domingo in 1930. During the 20th century the brand consolidated on domestic and international markets; the premium expression 'Barceló Imperial' was introduced at the end of the century and became the flagship product. Since 2010 the group has equity/operational links with Alcoholes Finos Dominicanos (AFD), a modern production and distillation facility that supplies part of the product. The brand is also reported as part of the portfolio managed by the Varma group for international distribution.
