Distillation and production

Distillation and production

Production method

Production varies by category: for amari and bitters the company works with blends of herbs, roots and spices (secret recipe for Fernet) using traditional extraction/maceration/infusion methods; for grappas distillates derived from pomace are used; for brandies spirits are produced from selected wines followed by aging and blending.

Distillation

For grappas: distillation of pomace; for brandies: distillation of selected wines followed by maturation/blending; for amari and vermouth: extraction/maceration/infusion of botanicals (traditional and in some cases secret recipes).

Ageing

For the house brandies (e.g. Stravecchio) maturation in oak barrels followed by harmonization/blending in the large "Botte Madre" (Magna Mater); other products may undergo specific finishings depending on the type.

Producer history Fratelli Branca

The company was founded in Milan in 1845 when herbalist Bernardino Branca developed the amaro that became Fernet‑Branca. Over the decades Fratelli Branca grew from an artisanal laboratory into an industrial reality with production plants (currently active on Via Resegone in Milan) and a strong international expansion. Over the years the group acquired historic Italian brands (including Distilleria Candolini in the 1980s and Carpano in the early 2000s) and established the holding Branca International to manage business diversification.

Production philosophy

The company's philosophy is summed up by the motto "Novare Serbando" (innovate while preserving tradition): maintaining historic formulas and consolidated know‑how while combining them with product innovation, attention to quality and initiatives in sustainability and corporate culture.

Territory

Milan (historic headquarters and main production facility). Commercial and production presence in international markets, with distribution activities in many countries.

Awards and recognitions

Some group products have received international recognition (e.g. awards for Grappa Candolini and acknowledgements for Carpano products and Carpano Botanic Bitter).
