Le Sabbie dell'Etna DOC by Firriato represents a red wine that embodies the spirit and uniqueness of the volcanic terroir of Etna, one of the most fascinating and discussed wine-growing regions in Italy.

Produced mainly from the indigenous grape varieties Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, this label stands out for its distinctive aromatic profile and elegant structure. The Nerello Mascalese imparts the wine with notable aromatic complexity and robust tannic structure, while the Nerello Cappuccio adds delicate floral touches and a softness that perfectly balances the more austere aspects of the Mascalese.

The color of this masterpiece is a deep ruby red with garnet reflections, typical of wines that undergo wood aging, a process that Le Sabbie dell'Etna follows for about 6-8 months in oak barrels, followed by additional months in the bottle before commercial release. On the nose, the wine opens with notes of ripe red fruits, sweet spices, and a touch of volcanic minerality that reflects the soil on which the vines are cultivated.

On the palate, Le Sabbie dell'Etna DOC offers a beautiful acidity that balances with refined tannins. The finish is long and persistent, with echoes of fruit and spice. This makes it an excellent pairing with flavorful foods such as grilled red meats, mushroom-based dishes, or aged cheeses.

For wine lovers who appreciate a unique geographical story, Le Sabbie dell'Etna by Firriato is a choice that not only tells the tale of an ancient land but also of a vinous excellence that continues to evolve with each vintage.

Winery history
Founded as a family project by Salvatore Di Gaetano in the 1980s, Firriato has grown by expanding its presence across multiple estates in Sicily and bringing the island’s wines to international markets. The family has remained actively involved in technical supervision and brand development, over time establishing estates dedicated to production, ampelographic research and hospitality.
Production philosophy
The winery pursues an approach focused on respect for the land: careful selection of soils, promotion of local grape varieties and sustainability-focused agricultural management. Firriato declares the conversion of its vineyards to organic farming and has undertaken initiatives to offset and reduce the company's climate footprint.
Terroir and vineyards
The company's holdings are distributed across several estates that represent different terroirs: the hills of the Agro Trapanese, the slopes of Mount Etna and the maritime viticulture of the island of Favignana. The individual estates mentioned in the sources include Baglio Sorìa, Borgo Guarini, Dàgala Borromeo, Pianoro Cuddìa, Giudeo, Cavanera Etnea and Tenuta di Calamoni in Favignana.
