The Firriato winery, located on the slopes of Etna in Sicily, offers a white wine of exceptional quality that captures the very essence of the volcanic terroir: the Etna Bianco "Le Sabbie dell'Etna." This wine is a tribute to the rich mineral composition of the volcanic soil, where the vine benefits from a unique microclimate thanks to the influences of the nearby sea and the altitude.

Produced primarily with Carricante and Catarratto grapes, the cuvée derives its particular aromatic and structural complexity from these ancient native grape varieties, which are perfectly adapted to the sandy soil and the cool climate of the high mountains. It is no coincidence that these grapes impart a distinctive freshness and minerality to the wine.

Visually, the wine presents itself with a bright straw-yellow color. On the nose, intense aromas of white flowers and white-fleshed fruits such as peach and pear emerge, enriched by subtle notes of aromatic herbs and a light hint of almond. On the palate, "Le Sabbie dell'Etna" expresses great freshness and persistent minerality, balanced by a lively acidic structure that precedes a long and refreshing finish.

Ideal as an aperitif, it pairs wonderfully with seafood, fish dishes, and fresh cheeses. It is also an excellent companion for Sicilian cuisine, highlighting Mediterranean flavors like those of spaghetti with seafood.

Firriato's Etna Bianco "Le Sabbie dell'Etna" represents a sophisticated example of how terroir and tradition can come together to create a white wine that is simultaneously elegant, complex, and deeply connected to its natural environment.

Winery history
Founded as a family project by Salvatore Di Gaetano in the 1980s, Firriato has grown by expanding its presence across multiple estates in Sicily and bringing the island’s wines to international markets. The family has remained actively involved in technical supervision and brand development, over time establishing estates dedicated to production, ampelographic research and hospitality.
Production philosophy
The winery pursues an approach focused on respect for the land: careful selection of soils, promotion of local grape varieties and sustainability-focused agricultural management. Firriato declares the conversion of its vineyards to organic farming and has undertaken initiatives to offset and reduce the company's climate footprint.
Terroir and vineyards
The company's holdings are distributed across several estates that represent different terroirs: the hills of the Agro Trapanese, the slopes of Mount Etna and the maritime viticulture of the island of Favignana. The individual estates mentioned in the sources include Baglio Sorìa, Borgo Guarini, Dàgala Borromeo, Pianoro Cuddìa, Giudeo, Cavanera Etnea and Tenuta di Calamoni in Favignana.
