Boggina A, produced by the renowned Petrolo winery, is a superb expression of the Sangiovese grape variety, meticulously cultivated in the picturesque Valdarno di Sopra area, one of Tuscany's most prestigious regions. This wine represents a rigorous selection of the finest Sangiovese grapes, sourced from the historic Boggina vineyard, which boasts over fifty-year-old vines on rich and complex soils.

The production of Boggina A is limited, ensuring an almost obsessive attention to detail at every stage of the process, from vine care to vinification and maturation. The wine is fermented in cement tanks with indigenous yeasts to enhance the natural qualities of the grapes and subsequently matures in French oak barriques for a period ranging from 12 to 18 months.

Visually, Boggina A showcases a deep ruby-red color. On the nose, it offers a captivating bouquet of intense and complex aromas, where notes of ripe cherry, plum, tobacco, and a faint hint of aromatic herbs stand out, rounded off by a subtle touch of vanilla and sweet spices contributed by the wood aging.

On the palate, the wine is vigorous yet balanced, with finely woven tannins and a robust structure that promises excellent aging potential. The acidic freshness of the Sangiovese integrates perfectly with the fruit's maturity, leading to a long and persistent finish.

Ideal for pairing with Tuscan cuisine dishes such as roasted meats, game, and aged cheeses, Petrolo's Boggina A is a wine that celebrates the richness and diversity of the Tuscan terroir, offering a rich and memorable sensory experience with every sip.

Winery history
Petrolo is a historic estate in the Val d’Arno di Sopra that has developed distinct vineyards and recognized crus over time. Among its historic vineyards are Bòggina and Vigna Galatrona, the estate’s first Merlot planting, documented as a vineyard from 1990 and forming the basis of the Galatrona label produced since 1994. Over the years the estate has progressively reoriented its production practices and enhanced individual parcels to produce top-quality wines.
Production philosophy
The estate states a strong connection to the land and a respectful approach to nature: low-yield production, attentiveness to the soil and measured interventions in the vineyard and cellar. Petrolo emphasizes a poetic vision of wine as a transformation of nature and favors agricultural practices oriented toward quality.
Terroir and vineyards
Located in Mercatale Valdarno on the ridges at the southeastern edge of Chianti Classico, the estate extends across natural terraces beneath the Torre di Galatrona. The vineyards are situated between 250 and 500 metres above sea level on soils characterized by layers of galestro, sandstone and alberese, conditions that contribute to the identity of the wines.
