Domäne Serrig – Winery in Saar (Mosel)

Discover the story and wines of Domäne Serrig.

A historic estate in Serrig, in the Saar valley (Mosel region), known for its monopole of steep vineyards (Vogelsang) and for production focused on Riesling; today managed by Markus Molitor.
Region: Saar (Mosel)
Country: Germania
Founded: 1904
Grapes: Riesling
Monopole Serriger Vogelsang: single parcel of approximately 25 hectares. Vineyards on schist with extremely steep slopes and south‑southwest exposure. Acquired by Markus Molitor in 2016; relaunch and replanting began in 2017. First modern commercial releases: vintage 2020. Traditional winemaking practices: hand harvesting, basket pressing, spontaneous fermentations, and extended ageing.
Winery history
The estate originated as a Prussian state Domäne in 1904; it was privatized at the end of the 1980s and acquired by producer Markus Molitor in 2016. After replanting and renovation work began in 2017, the first commercial bottles under the modern name were released beginning in 2020.
Production philosophy
Rediscovering the historic qualities of Saar wines by favoring steep vineyards and manual methods: selective hand-harvesting, basket pressing, slow and spontaneous fermentations, extended ageing and maturation on the lees to preserve the finesse and minerality of Riesling.
Terroir and vineyards
Monopole in the "Serriger Vogelsang" location, on schistose slopes facing south-southwest with gradients up to 105%. The vineyard is situated in a cool microclimate that promotes slow ripening; the elevations listed on the estate's website range approximately from 220 to 340 m above sea level.
