The Planteray Rum Belize 2008 Terravera Collection is a 2008 distillate that immediately shows a warm, enveloping character, typical of well-expressed tropical rums. On the nose it opens with ripe tropical fruit and caramel sensations, with a subtle array of sweet spices and warm wood that remains well balanced. The profile is clean and linear, inviting the sip thanks to a measured balance between body and freshness that showcases the raw material.
On the palate it is round and restrained: the gustatory tension supports the softness, with a modest aromatic depth that evolves into notes of dried fruit, honey and sweet pepper. The texture is silky and the alcoholic warmth is present but well integrated; the persistence is pleasant, never excessive, leaving a warm, savory finish. Excellent enjoyed neat, at room temperature or slightly cool in a large glass, or with a small ice cube to open its aromas; it pairs well with dark chocolate, caramel desserts or a moment of post-meal meditation, ideal for those looking for a rum with a clear personality.

Brand
Planteray
FranceSince 1999
Planteray is Maison Ferrand's rum brand led by founder and master blender Alexandre Gabriel. The brand highlights the different terroirs of rum (Caribbean, Latin America, Indian/Pacific Ocean) and offers a range from bar blends to vintage releases and single cask bottlings, often featuring double maturation: a period of tropical aging in the region of origin followed by a final finish in Ferrand casks in France.
- Brand evolution from Plantation to Planteray (transition begun in 2024).
- Terroir-driven approach with rums selected from historic distilleries (e.g. Clarendon, Long Pond, Trinidad Distillers, WIRD).
- Practice of double maturation (tropical aging + finishing in France in Ferrand casks).
- Wide range: from bar expressions to premium blends and limited vintage single casks.
- Involvement and role of Alexandre Gabriel as founder and master blender.

The story
Originally launched as Plantation in the late 1990s and developed by Alexandre Gabriel within Maison Ferrand, the brand gradually expanded its range with blends, vintage releases and single casks sourced in collaboration with historic distilleries (for example Clarendon and Long Pond in Jamaica, Trinidad Distillers, West Indies Rum Distillery in Barbados). From 2024 the brand began transitioning its name from Plantation to Planteray, a decision publicly announced by the owner.
Distillation
Various: Planteray bottles and blends rums distilled at different facilities; methods include both pot still (including repeated/double‑retort pot stills for certain releases) and column still, depending on the distillery of origin.
Ageing
Double maturation: initial aging in the place of origin (tropical climate, often in ex‑bourbon) followed by a period of finishing/aging in France in Ferrand casks (ex‑Cognac) or other selected casks (e.g. Pedro Ximénez, special finishes).
