Planteray's Isle of Fiji Rum (70cl) offers a warm, enveloping profile, born of a tropical climate that leaves traces of ripe fruit without slipping into excessive sweetness. On the nose there are notes of cane sugar and molasses, shaded by vanilla and caramel; a slightly toasted base and sweet spices accompany the bouquet without overpowering it. The impression in the glass is one of balance between softness and structure: it is neither naive nor over-complex, but maintains an internal coherence that invites sipping.

The sip is rounded, with well-measured warmth and a pleasant flavor clarity; tropical fruit returns on the palate, supported by a slight tannic quality and a persistent finish where vanilla and a hint of wood emerge. It can be enjoyed neat or with ice, but also finds a natural place in rum-based cocktails that require body and harmony. Interesting pairings include dark chocolate, desserts based on caramelized fruit, or spicy meat dishes.

Planteray is Maison Ferrand's rum brand led by founder and master blender Alexandre Gabriel. The brand highlights the different terroirs of rum (Caribbean, Latin America, Indian/Pacific Ocean) and offers a range from bar blends to vintage releases and single cask bottlings, often featuring double maturation: a period of tropical aging in the region of origin followed by a final finish in Ferrand casks in France.

Distillation

Various: Planteray bottles and blends rums distilled at different facilities; methods include both pot still (including repeated/double‑retort pot stills for certain releases) and column still, depending on the distillery of origin.

Ageing

Double maturation: initial aging in the place of origin (tropical climate, often in ex‑bourbon) followed by a period of finishing/aging in France in Ferrand casks (ex‑Cognac) or other selected casks (e.g. Pedro Ximénez, special finishes).
