A Clarendon 1984 rum by Planteray that clearly bears only the imprint of time: deep and measured, it displays an aromatic palette where ripe tropical fruit coexists with the sweetness of molasses and light ester notes typical of Jamaican tradition. On the nose there are hints of tobacco and leather, together with sweet spices and a wood that provides structure without overpowering. The palate is warm and enveloping, very clean, with a softness that doesn't slip into flatness but maintains good balance and an elegant persistence.

In the mouth you appreciate the depth: the glyceric component supports sensations of dried fruit and a slight bitterness reminiscent of cocoa, while the wood supplies a measured tannic backbone. Best enjoyed neat, at room temperature, in a glass that concentrates the aromas; it pairs successfully with dark chocolate or cigars if you seek a more convivial encounter, but it stands up admirably to solitary contemplation.

Planteray is Maison Ferrand's rum brand led by founder and master blender Alexandre Gabriel. The brand highlights the different terroirs of rum (Caribbean, Latin America, Indian/Pacific Ocean) and offers a range from bar blends to vintage releases and single cask bottlings, often featuring double maturation: a period of tropical aging in the region of origin followed by a final finish in Ferrand casks in France.

Distillation

Various: Planteray bottles and blends rums distilled at different facilities; methods include both pot still (including repeated/double‑retort pot stills for certain releases) and column still, depending on the distillery of origin.

Ageing

Double maturation: initial aging in the place of origin (tropical climate, often in ex‑bourbon) followed by a period of finishing/aging in France in Ferrand casks (ex‑Cognac) or other selected casks (e.g. Pedro Ximénez, special finishes).
