Winery history
Craggy Range was born from the Peabody family's vision to create a lasting winemaking heritage. The estate was developed by selecting distinctive parcels in the Gimblett Gravels and Te Muna Road regions; the company formally dates its founding to 1998 and has established a long-term family trust to preserve the estate's legacy.
Production philosophy
Strong focus on winemaking from estate vineyards and a single-vineyard philosophy to highlight the character of each site. Strong emphasis on sustainability, with a plan to convert to organic practices and adopt biodynamic and regenerative approaches, alongside a long-term commitment to land conservation.
Terroir and vineyards
The main estates are located in the Gimblett Gravels district, characterized by gravelly soils and a warm, sheltered climate ideal for Syrah and Bordeaux blends, and in the Te Muna Road valley, with alluvial terraces and a wide diurnal temperature range that favours Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc.
