The 10-year-old Cossart Gordon Bual is a vibrant and approachable expression of Madeira's winemaking tradition, carried on proudly by Gordon and Blandy's, two of the island's oldest and most esteemed wine houses. This Madeira Bual combines the richness and complexity expected from a wine from this esteemed region with an approachability that invites discovery.

Made from Bual grapes, known for its natural balance between sweetness and acidity, this wine undergoes Madeira's characteristic aging process, exposed to controlled temperatures that accelerate oxidation and promote maturation that would otherwise take decades. This method gives the wine remarkable stability and a complexity of aromas that develop and integrate beautifully over the years.

The color is a warm and welcoming amber, with shades that reflect its age. On the nose, the wine offers an intriguing bouquet of dried fruits, such as figs and dates, along with notes of honey, caramel, and a rich variety of spices. There is no shortage of hints of wood and a light note of candied citrus, which add freshness and liveliness to the whole.

In the mouth, the 10-year-aged Cossart Gordon Bual reveals itself to be rich and enveloping, but with a surprising freshness that balances the intrinsic sweetness of the wine. Its structure is complex, with flavors that directly refer to the aromas perceived by the nose and evolve towards a long and pleasantly persistent finish, characterized by a pleasant acidity that invites another sip.

Perfect as a meditation wine or as an accompaniment at the end of a meal, this Bual pairs wonderfully with a wide range of desserts, from fruit-based desserts to richer, creamier ones. It's also exceptional with blue cheeses, offering a contrast of flavors that enhances both wine and food.

The 10-year-old Cossart Gordon Bual represents an ideal introduction to the world of Madeira wines for newbies, while offering enough complexity and depth to satisfy even the most discerning connoisseur's palate. It is a testament to Gordon and Blandy's mastery of creating wines that capture the essence of Madeira, offering a rich and memorable tasting experience.

Winery history
Blandy’s is one of the historic names in Madeira production: the Blandy family has led the company for generations, and the label is recognised for preserving traditional ageing techniques and for operating the Blandy’s Wine Lodge in Funchal. Over the years the company has kept collections of vintage bottles and expanded its portfolio to include frasqueiras, colheitas and blends of different ages.
Production philosophy
It combines respect for traditional Madeira winemaking practices—ageing in the island’s characteristic rooms and casks—with initiatives in innovation and sustainability. The winery emphasises the varietal origins of its wines and the care taken in ageing to express the different styles of Madeira.
Terroir and vineyards
Operations are concentrated on the island of Madeira, with the winery and Blandy’s Wine Lodge in Funchal. Grapes are sourced from several areas of the island, including Seixal, Câmara de Lobos and Jardim da Serra, and the producer also uses cooler sites, such as Caniçal, for certain ageing.
