Winery history
The Muto family has been present in Tufo for generations; Angelo Muto, the third generation, began winemaking independently in the early 2000s. In the initial years he relied on third parties for bottling, while from the 2008 vintage winemaking has been carried out in the family's own cellar to showcase the grapes from the family vineyards.
Production philosophy
Low-intervention production with a strong focus on respect for the soil: hand-harvesting, use of indigenous yeasts and low-impact practices to preserve the vitality of the vines and the expression of the terroir.
Terroir and vineyards
Located in the hilly areas of Tufo in Irpinia, the vineyards are planted on volcanic soils containing sulfur in the historic area of Greco di Tufo; one parcel sits above ancient sulfur mines that influence the wines' minerality.
