Distillation and production

Distillation and production

Production method

Ferrand cognacs come from the Grande Champagne cru; the house uses traditional double distillation in charentais pot stills (alambic charentais) to produce eaux-de-vie, which are then aged in French oak barrels (including Limousin oak). For some editions practices such as double-cask ageing and finishes in ex‑Port, PX or Banyuls casks are employed; single cask bottlings and cask-strength releases are also offered.

Distillation

Double distillation in charentais pot stills (alambic charentais), following Cognac tradition.

Ageing

Aging in French oak barrels (including Limousin oak); some expressions receive finishes or ageing in ex‑Port, PX or Banyuls casks and employ double-cask practices for specific editions; single-cask, cask‑strength releases are also available.

Producer history Ferrand

Maison Ferrand was relaunched from 1989 by Alexandre Gabriel, who rebuilt and modernized the business while preserving historic techniques linked to the Grande Champagne terroir. The operational headquarters and part of the cellars are located at Château de Bonbonnet in Ars (Charente). Over time the maison expanded its portfolio to include cognacs in various expressions, single-cask editions and liqueurs like Dry Curaçao; it has also developed projects related to spirits tourism and double-ageing for some releases.

Production philosophy

Ferrand declares a strong commitment to preserving traditional cognac techniques while pushing innovation: working on the Grande Champagne terroir, experimenting with finishes in different casks and reviving historic spirits recipes to reinterpret them in a contemporary key.

Territory

Vineyards and cellars in the Grande Champagne cru (Angeac/Segonzac area), operational headquarters at Château de Bonbonnet in Ars, Charente department, Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, France.
