Pignatuni can be defined as the spearhead of the Statella family. Only in this vineyard, and a few others, is it possible to find very old vines, some even prefillosseric, cultivated as sapling on a land originating from ancient lavas. These soils, defined as "andic", are very fertile and this is due to the presence of particular minerals containing iron and aluminum, capable of giving the soil a great water retention capacity, a very important quality for dealing with a possible problem of water stress.

A drink that pours into the glass with a bright ruby red color, tending to mahogany with aging. On the olfactory examination it shows a varied and enveloping scent, characterized by the predominance of balsamic notes, elegantly blended with fruity hints of red fruits, and licorice aromas.

A powerful and majestic wine, with an important structure and present but velvety tannins. On the palate it is long and persistent, characterized by an aroma marked by a not too evident acidity, and vice versa, quite high alcohol, which helps to mitigate the effect of tannins.

A red with character that will certainly prove to be a guarantee if served on the table to attend important occasions. A wine to be served in combination with courses based on meat, game, roasts, game and aged cheeses.

Terroir and vineyards
The vineyards are located on the slopes of Etna in contrade such as Pettinociarelle and Pignatuni; the soils are of volcanic origin and the elevations reported for some wines are around 700–750 m above sea level.
