Winery history Casale del Giglio

Founded in 1967 by Dr. Berardino Santarelli. In 1985 the estate launched a research and development project, authorised by the Lazio Region, that led to experimental plantings of many varieties (e.g. Syrah, Petit Verdot, Sauvignon, Viognier, Petit Manseng) and to the development of the Agro Pontino area.

Production philosophy

“The future of Italian viticulture relies not only on consolidating the image of its traditional wine producing zones but on its ability to produce top quality wines at favourable prices in areas whose potential is still relatively unexplored.” (from the winery presentation).

Terroir and vineyards

Located in the Agro Pontino valley, between Aprilia and Latina (Le Ferriere), about 50 km south of Rome; maritime-influenced climate. The estate lists about 180 hectares of vineyards, converted to cordon training and planted with both local and international varieties.

Awards and recognitions

Numerous national and international awards. Among the recent recognitions announced by the winery: a Gold Medal for the Chardonnay and a Silver Medal for the Sauvignon, as well as mentions and positive scores in guides and from specialist critics.
